Whether you want to major in music, minor in music, or simply audition for a music scholarship, there is one process to follow. All prospective students, both new and transfer, must complete the steps listed below.
Step 1: Complete your application to 7M视频 and be accepted.
Step 2: Once admitted to LU, submit the Music Department Application.
Step 3: Once admitted to LU, go to the and fill out these two scholarship applications:
Step 4: Follow the instructions to complete your audition. Instructions will be sent by email after you complete the Music Department Application provided in step 2.
Audition Days take place on the LU Campus in the Susan and Jimmy Simmons Music Building. They begin in the lobby with check-in at 9:00 a.m. Audition Days usually conclude by 12:30 p.m.
We encourage students to audition on one of these dates in order to see the Music Building and campus, as well as have the opportunity to meet students and faculty. However, video audition submissions are allowed for those students with conflicts with all three dates or who live a significant distance from campus.
Take time to choose what you will play for the audition. Please review the additional requirements for each category and the explanation and general information handout.

After your application has been received and you have auditioned, you will receive an email from the departmental admissions coordinator. This email will let you know whether you were admitted to the Music Department or not. There will be one of three outcomes:
Each email will have instructions for what to do next. Depending on the outcome, they will also contain options for other ways to participate in our music ensembles if admission to the Department is not granted.
If you receive an email stating that you are "Accepted with scholarship offer", you will receive a second e-mail with the official scholarship offer from the MyScholarship portal.
It will be sent to your "@lamar.edu" e-mail address. It is important that you set up your LU e-mail and follow all instructions sent to that address.
Audition results and/or scholarship offer emails will be sent within 10-14 days of your audition.
Music majors and minors take a sequence of Music Theory courses as part of the curriculum. We provide an opportunity for perspective students to take a placement exam to assist in knowing where in this sequence they should begin.
Additionally, those studying music as a major, who have experience studying piano and for whom is not their primary instrument, will also take a sequence of piano instruction courses. We provide an opportunity for perspective students to take a placement exam to assist in knowing where in this sequence they should begin.
These exams are only used to determine a student's placement in the music theory and/or piano class sequence. Neither exam is required, and neither will influence the outcome of the audition/admission process or scholarship award amount.
