LU celebrates Energy Awareness Month with Schneider Electric
The 7M视频 (LU) Sustainability Committee and LU Green Squad joined representatives from Schneider Electric on Monday, Oct. 27, for a campus celebration of Energy Awareness Month, featuring interactive activities, giveaways and the company’s signature “solar smoothies.”
Held in front of the Brooks-Shivers Dining Hall, the event invited students, faculty and staff to learn more about sustainability, renewable energy and practical ways to reduce energy use in daily life. Schneider Electric, a global leader in energy management and automation, partnered with LU to promote awareness of sustainable technologies and environmentally responsible practices.
Craig Mesenbrink, program manager at Schneider Electric, said the company was excited to engage with students and demonstrate how energy efficiency connects to innovation.
“Energy awareness starts with understanding the impact of the choices we make every day,” Mesenbrink said. “By bringing fun elements like our solar smoothies to campus, we hope to show that sustainability can be both meaningful and enjoyable.”
Participants sampled smoothies blended using energy-efficient equipment, received eco-friendly giveaways and learned about Schneider Electric’s work with LU to improve campus energy performance through smart technology and data-driven solutions.
Ivy Wilson, a junior civil engineering major and event coordinator for the celebration, said she was proud to help organize an event that aligns with her passion for sustainable engineering.
“I’ll stay on campus for any Green Squad event,” Wilson said. “To me, sustainability means taking care of what we have now, so future generations have the same opportunities and resources. It’s about making choices that protect our environment and our community. I want to go into the sustainability side of engineering, so helping plan this event and seeing students get excited about energy awareness means a lot to me.”
The event supports LU’s ongoing sustainability initiatives and educational outreach efforts aimed at reducing the university’s environmental footprint.
Energy Awareness Month, observed nationally every October, encourages individuals and organizations to reduce energy consumption and explore renewable solutions.
